SonarNext by Sonar Technologies International
Farm network design that keeps working — even when the internet doesn't
We design and build property-wide networks for Australian farms: proven point-to-multipoint wireless projects, multi-internet backup with Starlink failover, and resilient LANs engineered to keep your cameras, sensors and sheds talking even when the internet goes completely down.
Capabilities
Connectivity built for the paddock, not the office park
Point-to-point wireless links
A specialty with completed projects under our belt: engineered links (Ubiquiti and carrier-grade platforms) spanning kilometres between buildings, with proper link budgets and terrain analysis.
Multi-internet backup
Starlink combined with NBN, fixed wireless or 4G/5G in automatic failover — the property stays online when any single connection drops.
Offline-resilient LAN design
Cameras, sensors, scales and shed-to-shed links keep running on the local network even when the internet is completely down — because farm operations can't wait for an outage ticket.
Shed & workshop Wi-Fi
Proper coverage in steel sheds, packing facilities and workshops, where standard consumer gear gives up.
Cameras & security
CCTV over long-range links for yards, gates, machinery sheds and stock — viewable from the homestead or your phone.
AgTech & IoT
Networking for tank and bore sensors, weather stations, weigh bridges and farm management platforms — monitored remotely so most issues are fixed before you notice.
Why SonarNext
Enterprise engineering, rural pragmatism
Farm networks fail for predictable reasons: consumer hardware in harsh conditions, links designed without terrain analysis, and nobody watching when something drops. We bring the same engineering discipline we apply to 24/7 warehouses — proper link budgets, rated outdoor hardware, lightning and dust protection, and remote monitoring — sized sensibly for a working property's budget.
And we design for the day things go wrong: multiple internet paths with Starlink failover, and a LAN architected so the property keeps operating locally through a total internet outage. Rural connectivity fails sometimes; your farm shouldn't fail with it.

Common questions
Our farm has poor NBN and mobile coverage. What are our options?
Usually a combination: Starlink or fixed wireless for the internet feed, then a private long-range wireless network to distribute it across the property. We design the mix based on your terrain, budget and what actually needs connectivity — from the office to the furthest pump shed.
How far can you extend a network across a property?
Point-to-point wireless links routinely cover several kilometres with clear line of sight, and multi-hop designs can chain much further. Sheds, silos, bores, weigh bridges and worker cottages can all be brought onto one managed network.
Can you connect cameras, sensors and farm equipment, not just computers?
Yes — that is most of what we do on farms: CCTV over long-range links, water and tank sensors, weather stations, gate and access control, workshop Wi-Fi and connectivity for AgTech platforms. If it needs a network, we can get one to it.
What happens to the farm network when the internet goes down completely?
On a properly designed network — nothing. We architect farm LANs so everything on the property keeps talking locally: cameras keep recording, sensors keep logging, sheds stay linked and local systems keep working. Combined with multi-internet backup (Starlink plus NBN or 4G/5G in automatic failover), total outages become rare — and survivable when they do happen.
Have you actually built point-to-multipoint farm networks before?
Yes. Point-to-multipoint and multi-hop wireless design is a SonarNext specialty with completed rural projects under our belt — including FPG, where we delivered solar-powered remote network sites across large agricultural properties and now monitor the network in real time. Every link is engineered from terrain and elevation data with a proper link budget before we quote, so performance on paper matches performance in the paddock.
Do you actually travel to regional properties?
Yes. We are Sydney-headquartered but design remotely from maps and elevation data, then travel for installation, working with regional partners where that keeps your costs down. Remote monitoring means most post-install issues are fixed without a site visit.
What does a typical farm network cost?
A single long-range link with managed Wi-Fi at each end is often in the low thousands installed. Whole-of-property designs vary with terrain and site count, which is why we scope from maps first and give you a fixed itemised quote before any commitment.
